Made in back to the main house, grabbed some water, Bates and Debbie decided on Panama Beer (Pilsner type Panamanian Beer).  Richard stopped by and kindly brought a green coconut,  brown coconut, noni fruit, bread fruit and akii fruit (acai ? except these were red).  We were hit by a couple of more showers and then the SUN came out.  HEATING up, blue sky 26.7 Celsius.  Turned on the fans, hooked up the IPOD and listened to Bates jam mix, mostly 80s which I like.  Played a relaxing game of up and down the river which I won.

Albrook airport, the domestic Panamanian airport is about 20 min cab ride ($5 dollars for two) from Sevilla Suites.  Small airport for flights inside Panama and to Costa Rica.  Luckily we got the largest plane (a Fokker) holds about 40 people (2×20 and no jukebox money).  One hour flight to Bocas.  Take off being in the back of the plane was a bit squirrely, the back end had lots of movement.  The flight was rough in spots as we went up through the cloud cover and down into the cloud cover.  Got an amazing view of the Panama Canal soon after we left Panama City.  A few nice stomach falling sensation drops as we came through the cloud cover.  We got a nice view of the Isla Colon as we approached.

Crosstown Traffic and the Magic Bus

We left Casco Viejo at 1300 and our plane was departing at 1530.  Traffic was extremely bad getting out of Casco Viejo back to the hotel.  The local buses are colorfully decorated to the drivers specifications.  Bugs Bunny, Simpsons and Garfield seemed to be the rage.

crw_00711Casco Viejo was our destination in the morning prior to our departure for Bocas del Toro.  The $4 dollar cab ride for 4 people took us about 15 minutes from our hotel.  Narrow streets with what appeared to be a non-stop renovation of the area.  The Old City is becoming new again.  It appeared safe during the day with numerous police on foot , on motorcycle and in patrol cars.  At night I’ve read safety might be a question.  Narrow streets with 2 to 3 story buildings with balconies and at the tip of Casco Viejo is French Park memorial to the French builders of the canal.  We meandered through the streets and found Granclement.  A gelato shop owned by a French couple.  We enjoyed  Mango-Passion fruit, Basil-Mint, Guanabana and Blackberry sorbet.

Landed in Panama City yesterday.  The Continental crew played PANAMA as we approached PTY airport.  Jason Korn was on our flight from Houston to Panama City.   We got through customs without any delays and grabbed a cab outside, negoiciated before getting in and decided on the $11 dollars a piece to our hotel Sevilla Suites.  A business hotels sans the Wifi, a kitchenette, a hard mattress and a  small free breakfast from 6 to 10am.
